Significance of Maha Shivarathri !!!

“No one seems to have made an effort to recognize the meaning and significance of Shivarathri. In fact, the very word Shivarathri reveals its meaning. “Shiva” means auspicious and “rathri” means night. Thus, Shivarathri means auspicious night.

Then the question arises, “Who is Shiva?”
The divine consciousness pervading all the living beings is none other than Shiva. This Shivattwa (divine consciousness) permeates not only human beings, but the birds, beasts and animals as well. In fact, every moment in our life can be taken to be Shivarathri. We need not wait for Shivarathri on a particular day in a year.”

An Interview with Shirdi Sai Baba

Man : “What surprises you the most about mankind?”

Sai answered – “That they get bored of with childhood, they rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.

That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health.

That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live neither for the present nor the future.

That they live as if they will never die, and then die as if they had never lived.”

Man :” Thank you for your time,” I said humbly.
“Is there anything else you would like your children to know?”

Sai smiled, and said… “Just know that I am here, Always for my Children”

Baba says “No matter where you go, always do your duty as you see it, and that I, will be there inside you, guiding every step of your way. In the years to come you will experience me in different manifestations of my form.

You are my very own, dearer than dear to me. I will protect you like the eyelids protect the eyes. You already have me and I have you. I will never leave you and you can never leave me. From this point on do not hanker after anything. Do your duty with unwavering love, seeing all as God.

Be patient. In time everything will be given to you. Be happy. There is no need to worry about anything. Whatever is experienced, whatever happens know that the Avatar willed it so.

There is no force on earth which can delay for an instant, the mission for which this Avatar has come. You are sacred souls and you will have your part in the unfolding drama of the new Golden Age, which is coming.

The Blank Paper: Miracle

This pepal tree stands tall between Ganesh Gate and Ganesh Manidr. Just under this tree, I witnessed a great miracle, unfolding in front of me and many other devotees. This happened few yeas ago, when the Gold leafing work was going on in Sai Kulwant Hall.

One day, after morning Darshan was over, I was moving out of Sai Kulwant Hall. I wanted to buy a news paper and also try some breakfast stuff. While I was passing near the Ganesha gate, I noticed a small crowd engaged in arguments and sort of a small fight. Being unusual in Prashanthi Nilayam, this incident attracted the attention of many people including me. When I went, I found that one of the professors in Swami’s college was trying to sooth the hot temper of the two angered devotees. One man was heavily built and looked like a tough Ruffian with a thick moustache, Another man looked like a humble Sadhu. Both explained their positions.

The tough man said that he had handed over an envelope to Swami. Swami accepted the cover and immediately gave the same to the Sadhu who was sitting next to him. Now this man wanted to have the letter back. He further said that he had committed lots of heinous crimes and that he confessed everything to Bhagavan Baba, in this letter. The contents were top confidential confessions and he did not want any others read it. He said that it would cause undue hardship for him if this was read by anybody else.

Now the Sadhu explained his position. He was praying mentally to Swami to provide him some financial assistance to enable him to go back to the Himalayas, and that he was sure that Swami had given him what he wanted. Swami had given him the cover, he did not wish to part with it.

The tough man explained that he had not kept any money in the cover. It was a small letter addressed to Swami, conveying that he had been a gang member all along having committed many crimes. He had prayed to Bhagavan to forgive him and accept him as His devotee. Both agreed that the Professor might open the cover and find out what is there in it. When it was opened, there was a blank paper, and all the matters written by the tough man had been erased. It was just a clean blank paper. And also there was a currency of Rs.600/- stacked in the cover. The Sadhu had prayed that Bhagavan give exactly this much amount to cover his travel expenses. The devotees who were witnessing this great phenomenon were wonder stuck.
The professor handed over the money to the Sadhu and the blank letter to the other man.

Every Living Being In This World Is Knowingly

Or Unknowingly On A Spiritual Pilgrimage

As we look around at the daily happenings in the world and observe the actions of human beings in all the various countries, it is hard to believe the above statement.  It becomes clear only when we consider the possibility that the vast majority of people are virtually asleep and, therefore, unaware of the true purpose of this life.

Many of the old teachers would attempt to awaken their students to the underlying meaning of this existence, often applying shock tactics to achieve their purpose.  We hear many tales of a master going so far as to slap a student to awaken him from his sleep.  Baba will sometimes use this shock method with His followers when He can sense that they are ready.  But life itself can awaken us, by providing problems, crises or heart-breaking events or experiences to alert us to the fact that there is more to life than just the maintenance of the body, satisfying the demands of the senses, propagation of the species, and all the other activities in which we are daily engaged.

So, at some time, we must wake up to the fact that there is more to life than maintaining our physical existence, and that we are inevitably on an inner journey from the personal everyday life with its many varied activities to the eventual goal of union with the real Self.

So, we are faced with the need for self-awareness to determine if our lives are being lived with this tenet in mind.  Are we once again wasting this opportunity we have been given to wake up and live consciously, instead of sleepwalking our way through, year after year, until this life ends and that chance is no longer available to us?  At death, we pass over into another dimension, only to return at an appropriate time and in conditions that offer yet another opportunity to wake up to the true purpose of this new life.  However, we will find that when we look around and see others living oblivious to the meaning of life, we may be tempted to follow their example and do the same.
